As demand for agricultural commodities continues to raise, so does the challenge of helping people around the world meet their basic nutritional needs. We are committed to addressing this challenge of food supply with minimal environmental impact. Environmental stewardship is at the core target.
Across our global business, we recognize that our operations have an impact on the environment. We are working to drive greater resource efficiency by standardizing our data gathering process and deploying our Commodities Environmental Management System (CEMS) to drive environmental management and conservation in our operations and to help reduce our impact.
Our CEMS, together with adoption of best practices from across our industry, is helping us make progress against the following objectives;
- • Continual improvement of our performance, including an action plan to reduce our environmental footprint.
- • Compliance with national and subscribed international conventions and relevant organizational principles and criteria.
Understanding our impact
We are working hard to achieve continual improvement across all established environmental criteria. However, due to our diverse operations across a broad range of commodities, there are specific environmental challenges in each category of our business we need to understand further.
Implementation of our CEMS
Biosource Global Resources CEMS applies to all assets, whether industrial, logistic, agricultural, or office-based. It is used to manage the environmental aspects of all our activities, products, and services and to establish objectives to improve our environmental performance. It provides an additional focus on;
- • Evaluation of environmental aspects and impacts.
- • Legal and other requirements.
- • Measurement, monitoring and management.
- • Waste management and sustainability.
Our commitment to Safety, Health and the Environment
At Biosource Global Resources (BGR), Safety, Health and Environment matters are key business priorities and enablers of success. And because our people are our most important asset, we take a global approach to managing employee safety and health through an integrated management system and a behavior-based safety program.
Our vision is to create a safe workplace wherever we operate around the world, with minimal impact to the environment, and ensuring that our people, as well as any third party working with BGR, return home safely and without injury every day. In addition to providing all necessary protective equipment and duty-specific training to ensure the safety of our employees, we are constantly investing in safety enhancements to protect them. We also ensure our facilities are built and maintained to operate safely, for the protection of our employees, contractors, visitors and the environment.
At the same time, recognizing that every individual plays a key part in making that vision a reality, we expect all our employees to take personal responsibility for ensuring safety in their workplace.
In practice, this means employees at all levels are responsible for the effective implementation of policies and procedures, complying with applicable laws, regulations, rules and codes.
